Cornah Cup

On Saturday 24 July, Sevenoaks School  hosted the Cornah Cup at Bough Beech Sailing Club. New to this year, the Cornah Cup is an Old Sennockian team racing event to commemorate Andy Cornah’s time at Sevenoaks School as Head of Sailing.

Mr Cornah will be leaving the school at the end of this academic year to become head coach at Tabor Academy in the US, after 14 years at the school as both head of sailing and a boarding house master.

A 14-year range of OS were present on Saturday for sunshine and light wind sailing conditions. Mr Elzinga, the current Headmaster of Sevenoaks opened the event, and racing began. The teams were selected in a ‘mixed pairs’ format, allowing for Old Sennockians from over 10 years ago to be racing alongside even some current students, who were certainly giving the old timers a run for their money! After managing 28 races in shifty conditions, the results are as follows:

First - Andy Cornah and Federico Roma

Second - (Joint) Cossie Lewis and Annie Richards, Mark Taylor and Alex Beddoes

Fourth - Martin Atilla and Odette Mead

Fifth- Ed Haynes and Tom Smith

Sailing was followed by a fantastic barbeque in the sun at the sailing club. It was brilliant to see so many OS reconnecting and sharing stories from their time at Sevenoaks, and showed credit to Andy Cornah for inspiring so many young sailors into a lifetime of a sport they love.

It is planned that the Cornah cup will be ran as an annual event for Old Sennockians, so please look out for details on next year’s edition!
