Andrew Kingsnorth International Volunteer Award

Congratulations to Professor Andrew Kingsnorth (OS 1959) on receiving the 'International Surgical Volunteerism Award' at the 2023 American College of Surgeons'/Pfizer Surgical Volunteerism and Humanitarian Awards, in recognition of 20 years of humanitarian surgery in remote communities around the world.

During that time, Andrew has enlisted the help of 200 teams of volunteer surgeons and anaesthetists to repair 20,000 inguinal hernias, often in improvised conditions, and implementing frugal innovations such as the use of mosquito net to repair the hernias.

Andrew is a founding member of the charitable organisation Operation Hernia, and currently he is the director of Hernia International.
