Paolo Bray (OS 1986) is founder and Director of Friend of the Sea. He has spent the past 30 years trying to protect endangered species. He is also Director of International Programmes for the Dolphin-Safe® project.

'The reason I decided to start Friend of the Sea and get involved in conservation is very simple. I was becoming more aware of the issues as I was finishing University, and as a result I became concerned about my future, and the future of next generations. I knew I wanted to help nature, the planet and people. This has made my life happier and brighter - even now when things don’t go the way I would like, I still feel good because I know I did my best to contribute to a better world.

Back in the Eighties, I was living in the International Centre,  preparing for the IB. I had the opportunity to network with people from all over the world. This experience helped me greatly in my career; developing our certification and conservation projects internationally. At Sevenoaks School I started getting interested in social and environmental conservation issues. All this, together with my improved English, I was well prepared to exploit the new opportunities provided by the internet around the world.'
