Sevenoaks School has been shortlisted for Independent Senior School of the Year by the Tes Schools Awards.

The Tes Schools Awards recognise the very best teachers and schools from UK state and independent schools, across early years settings, primary and secondary.

The shortlist was compiled by a panel of expert judges including school leaders. The schools and teachers they shortlisted showcase the best of education within 21 award categories, covering all areas of school education.

Sevenoaks Headmaster Jesse Elzinga said, ‘We are delighted to be nominated for Independent School of the Year in the Tes Awards 2024. A Sevenoaks education goes beyond exam results. We instil the love of learning and genuine academic endeavour. We learn and live our lives in the spirit of the International Baccalaureate to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world.’

The judges were particularly interested in Sevenoaks School’s longstanding commitment to voluntary service, which has been embedded in our curriculum since 1960. Our students volunteer weekly, giving a total of 37,800 hours of service every year.

‘The countless service activities undertaken by students make a real difference to communities across the globe and are centred on our own local community, giving back to local schools, care homes and our town,’ said Mr Elzinga.

‘Voluntary service also benefits our own wellbeing and gives our students a sense of purpose.

This nomination recognises how we have developed our education to prepare students for the demands of our changing world and empower them to deliver positive social impact.’

Winners will be announced on 21 June at a gala awards night at the Grosvenor House hotel in London.
