Update from the Head

Dear Old Sennockians

In these unprecedented times our thoughts are with you and your families across the world. As I have done for parents, students and staff, I wanted to update you on how your school is managing in these extraordinary circumstances.

Before I begin my update I first wish to offer my sincere thanks to the many OS working on the frontline, as well as those who are key workers and volunteers in the UK and across the world. Your service and humanity is inspiring.

While there is much uncertainty in the world today, I want you to know that the school is committed to helping you maintain the special bonds of friendship between one another and your connection with the school.

As you may be aware, the school took the decision to close in mid-March and switch to distance learning for the Summer term. Teachers and students have adapted quickly to technology-enabled distance learning and social media – an example of which is @sevenoaks_art featuring some wonderful artwork. Staff, students and parents have been actively supporting the most vulnerable in our local community through a range of activities and the school has been a key partner of the Sevenoaks NHS hub. You can visit our website for more information about the Sevenoaks School Covid-19 Response.

In the coming month the Sevenoaks School Covid-19 Appeal will be launched. Through financial relief, it will support students whose parents are experiencing sudden and significant financial hardship, and will also help the school to maintain access for young people from socially and financially disadvantaged backgrounds through free places. Your support of this appeal would be greatly appreciated - together we can ensure that no student is left behind because of the impact of the pandemic.

I look forward to being able to welcome you back to the school for reunions and events in the not too distant future. In the interim, please do use OS Connect to maintain contact with one another and the school.

Keep safe and well.

Best wishes

Theresa Homewood
