Sporting highlights

Cross country

Senior runners tackled a 5km Knole time trial on 20 March as part of the Harrow and Shrewsbury virtual events. Thirty-three runners in total took on the course including four staff. There were some superb times, with Rory Welsh in finishing fastest in 17:50.

Diving

Congratulations to Charlotte Bloodworth (Year 7) who took part in the Level X Diving Dryland games. The competition required participants to film a series of dryland diving drills which were scored by a panel of judges. Charlotte scored an impressive 120.5 points in the 11-13 age group, only ten points outside of the top ten, placing her 31st out of 81, competing amongst the top divers in the country!

Lockdown PE and Sport curriculum

Alongside delivering live PE lessons, we offered a varied games programme every afternoon. Activities ranged from specialist sports sessions to movement and meditation and the cricket and football debates. We also had guest speaker Tess Howard (GB Hockey) give a talk to our aspiring hockey players.

Masked Miler

Having reached the halfway point for our Masked Miler challenge at half term, we reached a cumulative total of 35,502 miles, which included the efforts of 642 individuals submitting over 1949 entries since we began on Monday 11 January. Final results for the competition will be released at the end of the week.

Social Impact

Year 8 pupils Christopher, Billy, Kanishq and Daniel decided to cover the distance between London and Brighton, with each cycling or running at least 5.2km for five consecutive days. They each completed 26km, covering 104km in total to raise money for Médecins Sans Frontières.

Throughout this lockdown Carlotta and Juliette (Y9), and Marjolaine and Victoria (Y7) have taken part in the Masked Miler Challenge and were inspired to help other children go outdoors too. They cycled a marathon in their neighbourhood with a joint goal of their own 1000 Masked Miler miles to raise money to buy footballs for local primary schools.

Congratulations to Maya (Y9) who completed her sponsored walk/run/cycle/indoor row from Land's End to John O'Groats! She raised £925 for Odd Arts who work with excluded and vulnerable groups through theatre and other creative arts.

Charlotte and Ellie (Y7) covered 600km in the two weeks to 15 March, running, cycling and walking to raise over £2000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Huge well done to Oliver (Y11) who ran a marathon for charity. He completed the 26.2-mile run in 3 hours 46 minutes, raising the amazing sum of nearly £7000 for Bliss, a charity which supports families of premature and sick babies.

Congratulations to one of our Sport scholars, Jemima (L6) for winning a KCC Try Angle Award. Jemima embodies everything we look for in a scholar through her hard work, commitment and willingness to give back to the school and the local community.
